Works in Clay
Clay sculpture, Mexican influenced colourfully decorated Frida and Deigo dinnerware, Naked Raku and traditional Raku, garden sculpture, smoked fired primitive pottery, and hand built pottery are all created in Tracy Harrison’s studio Creative Fire Studio on Salt Spring Island. Who?
Raku-fired clay and feathers.

Contemplating Pink
Raku-fired clay and feathers.
The first in a series of three (see next two masks to the right)
which portray the Maiden, Mother and Crone.

Priestess
Raku-fired clay and mixed media 8" X 10"
The second in a series of three masks which were
casted from the artist’s face at age 28 and sculpted
to portray the three significant periods of a woman’s life.

Baba Yaga
Raku-fired clay and cabochons 11" X 9"
The third in a series of three masks, this mask portrays
the Crone years. She was called Baba Yaga after the
Crone in this famous story.

Yak
Black Clay fired Cone with mixed media including
garlic vines, wire, glass cabaochons and beads
6 2.5' X 4'. Collaborative work with Rae Hunter a
basketry and multimedia artist from Alberta, where
the mask currently resides.

Moon Rays
Naked Raku 8" diameter.
Naked Raku is a process similar to traditional Raku
where clay works are fired to a low temperature
and removed from the kiln to be reduced in can of
combustible material. See next image for how this
process differs.

Moon Rays

In tradtional Raku a glaze is applied and the pots
are fired to melting temperature then removed.

Frida and Deigo Tea Pot Set
Hand painted Stoneware Clay

Spiral Bowl
Naked Raku 8" diameter.
In Naked Raku a slip is applied to the clay prior to
the glaze which falls off after the reduction process
(see shard lower right). This creates a brilliant variety
of carbonated patterns on the pot.

Pod
Fibre optic mixed media sculpture.
Smoke-fired clay 6.6" X 6.5" X 3"

Naked Raku Vase 6" X 6"
The pot is burnished and white terra sig is applied
to the pot prior to the bisque process which gives
the pot a smooth finish and sharp white glow.

Desert Vessel
Porcelain clay 12" X 6.5" (7" diameter).

Fiesty Woman

Naked Raku is as effective on sculpture as traditional
functional forms.

lightly colured with terra sigilatta.

beginning with small baby shoes working up to the
shoes and sole of an elder.

Installation of clay shoes and soles, which makes a
statement about the footprint we leave in our journey
and how the journey imprints our soul.

Offering

Collaborative piece with Heather Martin a basketry
artist. Heather used fine linen thread to weave this beautiful
bundle. The piece was featured in the "Sticks and Stones"
Collaborative Show between Potters and Basketweavers
on Salt Spring Island 2008.
